Bear Island Picnic, Roosevelt Canal, Walker Shopping

Sugar Point Resort offers a number of boating activities to ensure your summer vacation or weekend getaway is a memorable one. Bring your own boat or you are welcome to rent a boat from us. Even after you have worn yourself out on fishing, tubing, jet skiing, kayaking, or paddle boarding, you can take a short boat cruise to the sandy, private beaches of Bear Island.

Quite, relaxed, peaceful are words our campers use to describe Bear Island. Bear Island is the historic back drop of the 1898 Battle of Sugar Point, a battle fought between the 3rd US Infantry and members of the Pillager Band of Chippewa Indians (Wikipedia).

Stroll the beaches of Bear Island, anchor your feet from your lawn chair or boat deck with your favorite lemonade in hand, build a sand castle, or explore the forest. Bear Island is a great picnic destination too, especially to view the fall colors.

Finally, Sugar Point Resort would not be one of the best northern Minnesota resorts for a family vacation or an up north getaway without something in it for everyone. A boat ride to town, Walker, MN, might be just what the doctor ordered for even the fussiest camper. Travel through the historic Roosevelt Canal (most large fishing boats and small luxury boats can travel through easily) into Agency Bay and tie up at a public or restaurant dock for a day of leisure.
